2018 UAAMSA Health Fair

Welcome to the 2018 Asian American Health Fair presented by the United Asian American Medical Student Association (UAAMSA) at the University of Michigan Medical School!

UAAMSA is a student organization dedicated to supporting the healthcare and community needs of Asian American patients in the greater southeast Michigan area while creating opportunities for UM medical students and physicians to build a stronger community and to improve healthcare services and education.

At the annual UAAMSA Health Fair, patients can receive preventative screenings, consultations, and access to useful healthcare resources and information for follow-up care. These services are provided FREE of charge. However, if you do have insurance, please bring a copy of your insurance card for administrative purposes.

The 15th Annual Asian American Health Fair will be held Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the University of Michigan Medical School. The Health Fair will include the following services: 

  • Physician consultations
  • Access to health care information and resources
  • Lipid profiles and glucose (*requires 8 hours of prior fasting), blood pressure, glaucoma, bone density (for women only), breast exams

Health Fair Location: University of Michigan Taubman Health Sciences Library (Map Link).

The health fair will be held on the *6th floor* of the Taubman Health Sciences Library (THSL) at 1135 E. Catherine St., Ann Arbor, MI 48104. The building is directly across the street (Catherine St.) from the north side of the parking structure. If going from the parking lot, head down the stairs from street level and go through the glass doors. There will be signs inside the building to guide you to the Health Fair location.

Directions:

Coming from north of Ann Arbor

Take US-23 South, to the Plymouth Road exit 41. Turn right and follow Plymouth Road approximately two miles until you reach Maiden Lane and turn left. Continue on Maiden Lane until you reach Fuller Rd and turn right. Stay in the left lane as you go up the hill (you will pass under the pedestrian walkway as you cross Catherine St ) until you reach Ann St and turn left. From Ann St., make a left onto Zina Pitcher Pl, then a left onto Catherine, and enter the lot on the left from Catherine.

Coming from east of Ann Arbor

Take I-94 West to US-23 North (exit 180B). Take the Geddes Road exit (exit 39) and turn left. Continue on Geddes for approximately two miles, passing the Huron Parkway intersection and driving along the river where Geddes becomes Fuller. Continue on Fuller for another two miles. You will pass the Veterans Hospital and be able to see the Health System campus to your left. Pass the traffic light at Fuller and Maiden Lane/East Medical Center Drive and continue up the hill (you will pass under the pedestrian walkway as you cross Catherine St) until you reach Ann St and turn left. From Ann St., make a left onto Zina Pitcher Pl, then a left onto Catherine, and enter the lot on the left from Catherine.

Coming from south of Ann Arbor

Take US-23 North to Geddes Rd. (exit 39) Turn left onto Geddes. Continue on Geddes for approximately two miles. Geddes becomes Fuller. Continue on Fuller for another two miles. Pass traffic light at East Medical Center Drive and continue up the hill (you will pass under the pedestrian walkway as you cross Catherine St) until you reach Ann St and turn left. From Ann St., make a left onto Zina Pitcher Pl, then a left onto Catherine, and enter the lot on the left from Catherine.

Coming from west of Ann Arbor

Take I-94 east to Ann Arbor (exit 172). This merges into Jackson Rd. (Eastbound). Remain on Jackson , which becomes Huron, and continue for 2.5 miles through downtown. At the traffic light at Glen and Huron, turn left onto Glen. After one block on Glen, turn right at the traffic light onto Ann St. From Ann St., make a left onto Zina Pitcher Pl, then a left onto Catherine, and enter the lot on the left from Catherine.

Free parking is available across from the Medical Science II building in the Catherine St. Parking Structure.

Q: Where will the health fair be held? 

A: The health fair will be located in Ann Arbor in the University of Michigan Medical School, Taubman Health Sciences Library: 1135 E. Catherine St., Ann Arbor, MI 48104. Students will guide you from the entrance on the 4th floor to the 6th floor, where the consult rooms and screening booths are located.

 

Q: When is it held?

A: The Health Fair occurs annually. This year, the health fair will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

 

Q: Who is eligible?

A: The event is open to all, regardless of insurance status! All services are provided free of charge.

 

Q: Are only Ann Arbor residents eligible?

A: No, there is NO residency requirement. Everyone is welcome!

 

Q: What is offered? 

A: Patients can receive basic health screenings, health education, and physician consultations.

 

Q: Who are the doctors? 

A: The Health Fair is staffed by Michigan Medicine physicians, as well as University of Michigan medical, dental, and undergraduate students.

 

Q: How do I make an appointment?

A: To make an appointment, please complete the Registration form.

 

Q: Are walk-ins allowed?

A: Walk-ins are allowed, but may involve wait time. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged.

 

Q: Do I have to attend the entire day?

A: While attendance to the workshops, which provide many useful health resources and tips, is highly recommended, you do not have to attend the entire day.

Registration is not required, but it will make entrance to the health fair faster.
